Customer Review: If your container loses Vacuum. . .

My wife bought some of the rectangular containers and she was ready to throw one away "because it doesn't hold a vacuum". I took a look at it and noticed that, on the bottom piece, there was quite a bit of roughness to the plastic edge as I ran my finger along it. This edge has to seal with the soft rubber in the lid. I suspected that this was the problem (leak) area. So, I took some "0000" grade steel wool and smoothed the edge. Voila!!! The canister now holds a vacuum! After that success I took a look at all her canisters and every one of them had some roughness, some more than others. The steel wool is easy to find at almost any hardware store (Home Depot, Lowes, Sharps etc.) It is inexpensive. The 0000 (four zeros) refers to the fineness of the steel wool. Grade 000 (three zeros) is coarser but would probably work as well. Just rub the steel wool along the hard plastic edge all the way around the container trying to maintain a relatively flat edge. It only takes a couple of minutes with gentle to moderate pressure and your finger can feel the difference. When done smoothing, rinse the small steel particles away and give it a vacuum test. That should fix the problem.
We have not had any cracks in our containers after a year of use. My wife prefers the containers to the bags (less plastic waste) and is very happy with the whole process. She does use bags when she plans to keep the item in storage for a longer period.
One final note: Be careful you don't DING the plastic edge while you are handling or cleaning it.
